This may seem like a silly question, but do you guy's but your bass in it's case when not in use, or do you keep it on a stand.
I always put mine back in its case, would hate for it to get knocked off the stand etc. Also figure it keeps getting excessive amounts of dust in all those hard to reach places.
I always keep my basses out and about my practice room. It's handy to reach over, pick one up and start playing. I keep them in a RockStand so they're secure. They never sit long enough to collect dust - just sweat.
I'm really careful with my basses but if I want to leave it out on the stand while I have to tend to something and I know I'm going to come back and play it in a few hours then I use something I bought from Tuki Covers which is sort of a slip cover that fits right over your bass and stand. These are very light and simple and are vinyl on the outside and have a thin soft lining. I've been using mine for about 10 years now and it has held up remarkably well, best of all it was under $20, at least at the time. They are called Tuki Dust Covers and you can see them at www.tukicovers.com Cheers, George
I keep mine in the case, except for the 3-4 or 1-2 hours I play it at night. I dont want to risk it getting knocked over(IbanezSRX505). Now my Squire P bass....it can take a licking and keep on ticking!!I leave it out, it is actually indestructable. It has a few knicks and dings but sounds great.
I should clarify so as not to sound too poverty stricken... I keep my hand made bass in its case all the time, the old yamaha and no-name mystery thing I leave out for nature to take its course
i keep my j out on a stand but i know if i'm gonna have a bunch of drunk ppl running around my dorm room or i just need it out of the way it goes back in it's house.
That's fits me to a tee. its much more motivating to practice when the bass is on a stand right in front of you. its also easier to pick up for a few minutes as you are walking by.
Mine stays in its case. I live in Southern California. Earthquakes are a reality. I want grab-and-go simplicity so it's not too far from the door with the handle out for an easy grab. I should really shut down my laptop every night and do the same thing with it
My "gig bass" stays in the case because I am too lazy to take it out The other two stay out where I can play them. I find the easier it is to just start playing the more I will play.
As of right now, the only bass I keep out on a stand right by my amp is my Geddy Lee. The other ones that I dont play too much are in cases. My new room is almost done being painted though and I already have 5 Wallacher here and waiting to be put up on the wall. It will defiently look awesome seeing all my basses hanging up on the wall just waitin' to be played. I'm a little skeptical about doing this but I think it will be alright.
Ditto, down to the RockStand part regarding security. I'm never sure when I want to "formally practice" vs. "play along with songs or just noodle", so it helps that I have all available depending on what particular needs are called for (4/5/6-string, fretless). Then again, my most expensive bass retailed for $1199, so if I owned something in the league of Lull/Sadowsky/Pedulla I might think differently.
The basses that have hard cases stay in the case. Those for which I only have gig bags stay out, and on a stand. i used to keep them all cased or bagged up, but I got tired of dealing with the gig bags any time I wanted to play one.
Im prettymuch the same, but the gig bags get used to store basses to, mainly just to keep dust off the bass, they sit ontop of hardcases under my bed Always have one on a stand tho, 5 basses, 2 hardcases, 2 gig bags, one stand
I would rather keep them in their cases, cause I know it's better for them. But I like seeing them everyday when I get home...
