Any Ken Lawrence owners out there? If so, what are your wood combinations/pickups? General impressions? Any experience with different string brands? I'm looking for something that will have a little less metallic fret noise than the MTD's currently on it. I tried an old set of Elixers, but they were dead (don't know the age of the strings). A set of DR LowRiders didn't really send me either...

well, i don't own a lawrence bass, but i do know that the DR sunbeams (nickel wrap on a round stainless core) are about the quietest roundwounds i've used. they're have a great warm sound and are quite flexible. best strings i've ever used. good luck. let me know if you try 'em.

I agree with the Nickel recommendation. I use Nickel on everything now, smoother sound, flexible feel, last longer and still have great (for me) high end, though not as "zingy" as SS.
