A few months ago I asked Brian at Low End bass shop to gut my Schecter Studio 5 and replace the stock EMG40hz's with new pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3. I was looking for something punchy and modern sounding, yet very adaptable and versatile sound wise. After talking about it he recommended the Kent Armstrong create 2 soapbars for me in EMG40hz shapes that the Studio5 is routed for. (He told me that Kent produces pickups for the Low End jazz basses). He then wired them Series/Parallel via Push/Pull vol knobs, and an active/passive switch. When I picked it up he also had strung up the bass with SIT Power Steels which was new for me... I hadn't tried SIT strings before. I wanted to get beyond the honeymoon phase with the modded bass before I made a decision on things. Decision? 3-4 months later and I still REALLY like what this did to my Schecter. So here are some soundclips of the Schecter Studio 5 three different ways. (Please excuse the slight but ever present Firebox hissssss, the bass itself is dead silent). The 3-band preamp is set competely flat (no boost or cut) on all of these clips.
