A native to Detroit, Michigan, Kern Brantley began music as a child with his mother and brothers. Kern wanted to join his brothers in playing guitar but was “forced” by the music teacher to take over the bass parts. Kern's entire family is intimately connected with music; His uncle was a musical director for Stevie Wonder. Today Kern is a sought-after bassist, producer, songwriter and arranger. Kern’s work is featured with Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, Brandy, Destiny’s Child, Ginuwine, Whitney Houston, R. Kelly, Salt-N-Pepa, Boyz II Men, Monica, Aaliyah, Bobby Brown, Earl Klugh, Grover Washington Jr., the Winans, Will Smith, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Aretha Franklin, the Clark Sisters, Eddie Murphy, and many other well-known musicians.

As a Warwick Artist, Kern Brantley plays the following Masterbuilt Custom Shop models:
    • Warwick Thumb Bass NT 5
    • Warwick Buzzard BO
    • Warwick Vampyre NT 4
    • Warwick Infinity NT Flamed Maple 4
    • Warwick Jack Bruce Signature
Kern Brantley came to the Bass Camp from Detroit, where he had prepared the annual "Detroit Bass Day". In our interview, Kern tells us how he bought his first Warwick Bass in Detroit and that he appreciates 5-string Warwick basses especially because of their incomparably expressive and tight tone on the deep B string.

Last year’s Bass Camp took place from August 28th to September 2nd of 2016 at Warwick in Markneukirchen/Germany, followed by the ReeveLand Music Festival on September 3rd. During the Bass Camp in 2016, we had the opportunity to talk extensively with the Warwick artists. All interviews were conducted by Nick Wells from Great Britain and recorded by the Warwick video team at the Warwick Headquarters in Markneukirchen.

Kerns the man, he also plays at a couple of our local churches, and hosts a great jam session when he's in town. He's been the main driver behind the last two Detroit Bass Days too.
