that's the website, has anybody tried these...I have some but can't string them up until my tailgut string comes in....They don't look like traditional weed wackers?:bassist:

I've tried them (the clear ones...can't stand the look of the flavored ones). I have the E bumped over as an A on my current set up (along with a Eurosonic E, and some raw guts on the D and G. But, that's temporary, as I wait for a delivery of Clef Guts.

They are decent...actually great for the price. Probably the best dollar for dollar deal out there. I got the extra high tension ones and liked them much more than a previous wacker set I'd been using that were even floppier.

They make a very nice dry slap tone, but not much note projection at all on the E and A.

If you're a roots, rockabilly, or bluegrass player, they'll take you pretty far.

I'll keep them as back ups.

    Two things to consider, though:
The ball end on one let the string slip out on one and I discovered it when I took my bass out of the bag for a gig. I had to knot it and retune...just made it, and I was sweating whether it would hold. It did, but I wished I'd done that ahead of time.

I tend to drag my pinky a bit to get my intonation (sloppy I know...but it's rockabilly) and I think the friction of the nylon is a bit more than guts or the Spirocores I used to use because I developed a heck of a callous when I was using them.

Hey thanx man. Yeah, I'm going for rockabilly, psychobilly, and some western swing....I kinda had the same worry about the slippage too. Kinda happy about the friction though. Did the E and A ever settle in more later on or did they stay about the same tonewise?

No real "settling" that I've seen. I don't know if you're going to get that so much with synthetic strings as much as guts.

That FMI guy is a jerk. We ran him off rockabillybass.com for being a liar and a jerk. Plus his method of knotting the end is lame. Go to www.traditionmusic.com and get Barefoot Larry's Hillbilly Strings, which are the original kevlar weed whacker strings.

Sorry for the zombie thread but what is the shortest scale length you can go with strings of this type and not have a floppy mess

The A and E are already wet noodles with wackers on 3/4. Superior Bass Works used to make a six string set so you could mix and match what gauges you liked best.

    Zombiethreads never die! :)

So, I am interested in trying some kevlar-nylon strings on a babybass. Now this weedwacker business seems strange to me. There are:

    Strings

    TRADITION MUSIC

Upright Bass, Double Bass, String Bass, Bass Fiddle for Sale and other Fantastic Musical Instruments

I am looking for a 5 string set so I email slaphappy and FMI. Both of them claim to be the real one and tell me the others are.. uhm.. well...

Anybody has any experience with the comparison? And with the low B for that matter?

    Thx folks!

Nice, I actually got a tip for those from someone on youtube (that has a sound I like!). But it seems there is no low B on those.
In fact I am not sure if any of these kevlar-nylons strings will do well that low.

Has anyone ordered these lately? Any idea what the backlog is like? I ordered some in March and still havent gotten them. I emailed Barefoot Larry about 2 weeks after ordering them and he said he had a lot to make so it would take awhile.
