My 10 year old son has been bugging me about bass lately. He has so many questions about everything from how to play to why so many different p/u designs. Four or five times a week he'll come find me and ask for a lesson. I used to teach so I grabbed the classic Mel Bay book off the shelf and started showing him how to sight read, understanding intervals and recognize how the piano helps us keep the math straight. He loves my newer Stingray, but he's such a little guy it can be tough for him to balance. The other day my Sweetwater catalog went missing. I found it in his room with a bunch of bookmarks and various items circled. His choices were both sensible and expected for a young boy: - Ibanez Talman TMB300 in red - Ampeg BA112 combo ...And he even selected a gig bag, stand and cable. I'm impressed. Never have pushed bass on him, but if he stays keen it could be a great bonding opportunity. Most of the things he's into I don't understand. We'll see - not buying anything yet. I insisted my students were about 12 before I started teaching them.
Better get him set up now while he has an interest, before he turns to computer gaming and just using his thumbs. You being the instructor could be a plus Or a minus?
Decided my initial post was in poor taste, so I deleted it. That's awesome that your kid is swiping your Sweetwater mag.... I think .
Jeez, when I was younger, guitar magazines weren't the magazines I was swiping...think you should encourage him!
I never saw your post, but I'm pretty sure I get it. Exactly. Lol. But yeah, that is awesome. Good for him.
Ohhhh..... YOUR kid swiped the magazine. I thought this was going to be another grump old man "get off my lawn" type of thread.
