Do the Kidz Bop Cds bother anyone else? Basically they're kids singing popular songs, probably in the 7-10 year old range.

I just don't think some of these songs were meant for kids to sing. They have grown-up lyrics and grown-up connotations and it's just plain gross (to me) coming out of a 7-year olds mouth. And I would want MY kids singing that stuff either.

One of the songs is Bring Me To Life by Evanescence. A song about someone who has died inside. EW! And I certainly find it gross for young kids to sing the words "Oops I did it again. I played with your heart. Got lost in the game. Oh baby baby." Or how can kids even begin to know what Nick Lachey meant in his song "what's left of me" and sing it with any kind of emotion.

I remember being obsessed with Flashdance when I was a kid, and I went around singing "Se-duce me tonight" until my dad told me to stop. I didn't know what "seduce" meant.

A lot of songs + lyrics have a lot of meaning to me, and I hate to hear them ruined by a chorus of innocent kids.

I guess most people don't agree with me, or don't care considering Kidz Bop put out 10 CDs of popular songs.

I'm totally going to make a Kidz Bop CD made entirely out of Death Metal.

Just imagine a 7-year-old trying to death grunt.

Apparently some people don't think before they tell kids to do/say/sing things.

Sick enough that they're singing anything from Britney Spears.

It's be so cute to watch the little veins throbbing in their foreheads. Bring the diapers though, they're young so the strain might cause accidents.

My two older kids freaking HATE it! (8 and 12) Everytime a commercial for it comes on they start ranting at how the "songs are ruined" etc etc
Cant say I disagree with them but yeah, the connotations behind some of the lyrics are a little iffy to me too. To hear a 7 year old voice sing some of that stuff is just creepy.

What the hell ever happened to SchoolHouse rock!?

I recall a Muppet Show episode where Paul Simon was the guest star. There was one sketch that had a stroller full of babies (in muppet form) singing Baby Driver. Yeah, that still weirds me out.

Of course, I get pretty upset when I hear Madonna singing American Pie. Having one of the (my opinion, of course) nastiest and most used up female pop stars singing a song that is, to the best of my ability to interpret lyrics, about a young man coming of age and losing his innocence... well it just doesn't seem right.

I kinda got upset when I heard Britney Spears sing "I Love Rock and Roll." She doesn't even know what Rock and Roll is!

There are 5-year olds who know all the words to Britney Spears songs. I wonder if they also sing her song about masturbation. EW! What happened to Disney? And songs like Row Row Row your boat? :rollno:

Disney was just too childish and gentle I guess.

    :rollno:

I changed my mind about it cute to see a 7 year old try death metal. Listened to Cannibal Corpse for the first time and if I ever heard a kid singing that, I'd grab the soap real quick.

    Now back to Kidz Bop.

I've never heard these "Kidz bop", but the intentional mis-spelling of "kidz" has already told me that the product is trash, irrespective of the TB'ers commenting here on how bad they are.

It reminds me of when Channel 4 first started out (not that I was round back then, but I saw a program which listed this as one of the 100 most shameful moment on TV), they had a program in which young kids would ress up, wear make up and sing their versions of popular songs of the day. It was pulled after a while, and some of the C4 staff recalled being disturbed by the amount of "fanmail" from single males they received (which these days, would land you right in jail as a paedo, no questions asked!). They showed some footage of the show, and there was some girl singing Dolly Parton/Dustry Springfield kinda stuff lamenting lost love. Afterwards there was another section of a girl singing Blondie or early Madonna while moral questions were raised over the lyrical content and the fact that a 7 year old girl was gyrating on the TV. Yep, it was in poor taste and is remembered as a moment of misjudgement for C4.

No question, the whole concept is just W-R-O-N-G! If I want my kid to hear those songs, I'll break out the originals. What a waste.

EW! I think it's kinda porn-ish for kids to sing those songs. I can see them singing "I'm Just A Girl" or some of the more innocent/fun songs. But I really don't want to hear a small chorus singing Hoobastank's The Reason.

My cousin asked for Kidz Bop for Chrismas one year and I refused to buy it for her. They have a website
    http://www.kidzbop.com/index.jsp
and videos. I've seen the videos, the one I saw looked like an episode of Barney. The kidz were bouncing around in pigtails and kiddie rocker clothes and there was some kind of hippie colorful swirly thing going on in the background. They sing the songs very much like a kids' chorus might sing Yankee Doodle.

But again, they have 10 CDs out, so someone must be buying them!
