A bit pricey I think considering I just had a 400+ priced to me at $650.00 with the Mesa Shock mount rack shipped to my door.

Though I'd much rather have the 400 over the 400+.

Well, I just dropped $925 on mine fully serviced and with fairly fresh tubes. I feel like it wasn't a bad deal. Sounds like you got a KILLER deal, though.

Why do you prefer the 400 to the 400+?

  4. Got mine for $700. Good tubes.

That one looks very nice. If its trully had little use and it doesn't have any problems requiring service, its worth more than the average beat up 400's with missing front labeling paint I've seen selling cheaper.

The 400's typically sell for $100/$200 less than a 400+ in similar condition. In this current market, I'm thinking you'll be able to get him down to somewhere in the $600/$650 range pretty easy.

You might take a look through these other C/L ads to compare asking prices:

Well I havent purchased one yet. Biding my time waiting to have the funds. Should have em in a couple weeks.

I would much rather have a 400 over the 400+ because of the number of tubes. Beside I have had both and I know a secret to get the 400 just as loud as the 400+. That one sure does look nice.

Probably (;)) involves unwarranted stress on the amp.

An appropriately larger transformer and JJ KT-88's would do it. It's pretty difficult to get something for nothing.

'Course, in the TB fraternity, not sharing information others might find helpful, or something that might just end up as a good debate, might just make you a snob. :meh: :smug:

Yeah man snob, make up something good and tell em...

Like putting the whole thing on a big variac and cranking up the input voltage... Or running it on 3 phase power under a crescent moon, or cryogenically treating the tubes with Dr Scholls Wart Remover and using Speaker Cream.

I like the one where you get out a chassis punch and blow a couple more holes in the chassis and add a couple more tubes.

Some people believe that they can skip the transformer part. Believe me, I fixed a couple of these, you can't.

I soooo much enjoy your posts. You bring a smile to my face.

It's kinda complicated how I got there and the mere mention of it will bring out the Internet Police. I should not have even mentioned it. The best thing at this point is to leave well enough alone and let the folks that have superior knowlegde continue to feel superior.

    Now that twas funny.

I like Bob's Idea of 460 Y voltage but that would require a different Primary.
