Hey how do i tune my bass for Korn play? what do i need to have that sound?
I think Korn's bassist a plays Warwick, and those kind of have a sound of their own. You'll probably have a hard time replicating it.
the tuning is ADGCF and he uses ibanez basses
he also is very proud of the fact that he cuts out all of the midrange of his tone. just very high freq and low Freq.
Not really a whole lot actually. First he plays an Ibanez custom SR 885. To get the sound it would be helpful to have a amp w/ a 9-band graphic EQ and just drop all midrange on it as well as your bass(fingering is super low, slapping super rattily), tune ADGCF(on some basses your B string might start to flop, adjust your bass accordingly), also a tremolo or bass synth pedal might be helpful fo covers.....Later
P.S. of course all this is if you actually want to play exactly just like Fieldy!?!
i think you also have to wear adidas sneakers
Hey what are you trying to say? I wear adidas sneakers.
You also have to wear your bass at your knees, play it like an upright, and have a shaggy beard.
Oh! Almost forgot. It also helps to have lots of tatoos.
you have to lose all of your talent, all of your tone, and all of your marbles to play like Korn.
From the man himself (Sep 00 BP mag):
"I might record with a special instrument like a Rickenbacker, but live I just like my bass to match my outfit."
That's where the adidas sneaker come in.
to sound like korn is quite simple. lose all concepts of what music should sound like, try to model your music exactly opposite of what sounds good, down tune your guitars so low that you completely forget how to play normal music and add so much dissonance that it doesnt even sound like you are trying to get the right notes. if you manage those basics, while adding terrible vocals, i think youll be set.
YES!!!!! Exactly my thoughts!!! MTV brainwashes these teenagers into thinking that KORN is real music. The "bass player" tuned down so low that it sounds like a rubber band flapping around. Good thing that these kind of bands won't last that long. A couple more years and some other garbage will come along.
MTV makes me want to smoke crack...
Is that bad or good?
Wow... there's a lot of Fieldy bashing going on in this here thread... cool!
Kids seeing Fieldy will want to emulate him and learn how to play back-asswards. He's very good at what he does, which is go WHACKA-WHACKA-CLACK but that's not playing bass, it's some weird... percussion thing.
(although to play devil's advocate, he does have some cool lines on the second album, like Porno Freak and Lowrider)

Bad, I think. Its a a song by Beck (not Jeff Beck )
to play like korn all you have to do is buy a crappy ibanez 5 string, it must be black. take all of the strings off, then buy one low b-string, string gague doesnt matter. Tune it so it is about at a low G, so you get that great clicking horrible sound. Dont waste your money putting more strings on the thing because you dont need them to play korn. and the bass must be black because you must at all times wear black with a black bass.... Yeah umm it was fieldy that said "it doesnt matter what note you play, as long as it sounds good.. yeah uh huh, korn will always in my mind be very very bad for you.
"Yeah umm it was fieldy that said "it doesnt matter what note you play, as long as it sounds good.. "
And it was Hambone that said "It doesn't matter who you talk about as long as it goes in the right forum"
And that's just where this one's going...
I'm sorry hambone, is that in the wrong forum? i was just prooving that fieldy has no clue what he's doing as a bassist or musician.
