So here is the clip. The mic is backwards and in cardioid mode, not figure 8 mode. A sound guy I know says something is fake about it, sound is too clear with a backwards mic, and is consistent even when she moves around. I think it's legit as a LDC cardioid mic will still pickup sound from behind, and better mics pick up more sound, with singer movement mattering less. Also the sound is not ideal, her voice is ringing, piano sounds good. Your take? Also, let's give a moment to appreciate sound and video techs in music concerts and broadcasts!
Sounds like it’s picking up a lot of room reflections as well. Doesn’t seem overly odd to me. there might be more mics in this production than we see? Overhead boom mic? Perhaps that condenser mic is a prop?
The LDC is obviously, from the sound of the recording, not the only mic in the room. Indeed, if that LDC is live, it's picking up a lot of room noise, which would be typical it it's backwards. Hey, she's a singer, not a sound engineer.
The sound quality changes from her speaking to her singing. The booms mic is probably just a prop and shes lip-syching the singing. OR turn the mic around and speak up to talk, then she wont muck up the song when lip-syching.
I agree that this was completely live sound. Unlike some other musicians, Ms. Germanotta is the real deal, and there wouldn't be any need to lip sync. This could've been Take 18 out of 23 – we'll never know for sure. Absatootely. Worth their weight in gold, and the ultimate defiers of Murphy's Law.
