Hi, im interested in getting a Lakland, but dont have a way to try them where i live. Im doing reaserch and im down to this 2 models. I know they are probably too different, however, i wanto to hear your experience with them. I play rock, like classic tones and dont like chunky necks. Which one do you guys recommend??
Old School Gospel on My DJ5 This is me going old school Gospel on my DJ5. This me going for that slap tone on the DJ5. The slap was passive, the finger tone was aided by my Sadowsky preamp.
44-64 is more phat and punchy with the P pickup. DJ is more sizzly and articulate with jazz pickups. Both are classic tones but perhaps you might like the 44-64 if you like a less bright tone and more bottom end. Both have jazz necks so they'll both be relatively slim profiles.
I've owned both, and I found the profiles almost identical. Both feel great if you like the slim Lakland J necks, but based on your original post, I'd go with the 44-64 Custom if I were you.
I owned both and currently have the 44-64 PJ. Based on your needs and taste, the 44-64 custom is the way to go. They are both excellent basses sharing the same superb slim neck! For me, the 44-64 PJ represents the best of both worlds! Enjoy the Lakland! The best neck profiles imho!
If you want a J bass - a DJ is excellent. Sounds like you may be set on a 44-64 custom....also an excellent choice! The Lakie stable cannot be beat...no matter the breed chosen.
I ordered a custom, it arrives in a couple of days. However, im starting to feel like getting also a DJ4
