Played a 55-01 recently and thought it was pretty dang nice, especially for the price. The OS (offset) version is apparently a bit upgraded, and has a very cool body shape. Strangely though, it’s as if there’s almost NO info, hype, or even advertising about it. There’s ONE video on all of youtube, only 2 threads on this forum, and even Lakland seems to be avoiding the product for some reason (offering it only in black is kinda strange IMO- I know theres a purple one that was sweetwater exclusive but it’s sold out already).

    What gives on this thing?!?!

It's essentially a 55-01 with an offset body. TBH they didn't even bring one to NAMM.

Apparently it’s an upgraded preamp, which I’ve heard people claim is a more significant upgrade to the 55-01 platform than the actual pickups. Ive read that the bartolinis that people find a bit blah come alive a bit more with the better preamp.

Not including a photo isn't helping lift it up into the radars attention... :p

Bumping this post a bit, I found this video, and... What can I say? I like the tone...

How does the offset body feel when sitting? Does it help the balance, or is there a tendency for it to have neck dive?

I primarily like the 44/55 body shape because it’s not offset, as such the OS very much passed me by. But still a massive Lakkie fanboy haha.

I personally don't mind the OS body shape. Having owned a 55-01 a while back I recall that the body shape (55-xx shape) seemed huge to me and was a bit uncomfortable at times. Then again my other bass was a Warwick so it was probably a matter of drastic change in body shape/size going back and forth between those basses. Maybe the OS would be a nice in between. Certainly sounds good in the video; perhaps there is something to the Bartolini preamp matched with those pickups.

I've seen a couple of 55-OS basses in a local store and both times the weight was somewhere in the 11-12 lbs range. Too heavy for me to consider. Unfortunately I didn't have time to plug it in to see what it sounded like.

There are several, both purple and black, on Reverb right now.
