Can anyone tell me what the Lakland 5501 deluxe has vs the regular 5501. I think they used a different preamp. My 2005 model has the soft knobs [splined shaft pots] which I understand is a different preamp. Just trying to understand if this is a significant upgrade from the factory. Thanks
As far as I know, the deluxe has a fancier top. Quilted or the burled/knotty wood look. Hardware and electronics the same.
Maybe I should have been more informative. I called Lakland because my metal knobs with set screw [OE] kept coming loose and need re-fitting [of course it took me 13 years of ownership to figure this out]. I called Leo at Lakland asking for a solution like the push on rubber knobs like on the 5502 [which I also own]. He said those only fit the 5501 deluxe, with spline shaft, which also has an upgraded preamp, not sure if that meant the USA preamp or ???. I should have asked him more questions about what that meant. Will do so later today and report back.
Many many years ago at the Nashville Nammshow, Lakland brought 15 or 20 skylines to display They were new to me and were just being marketed. The Lakland booth was on the 2nd level at the convention center. I could have picked any of them but stupidly bought from another company that no longer is in business!!! Several had the option of an upgraded preamp. Since they come from Korea --now Indonesia to Chicago, I'm sure that you can specify an upgraded pre IF you ordered your bass straight from the Chicago headquarters 5501's have the Mk 1 electronics normally. I have 4 ---5501's. One is quilted from 2002. And I have 2 quilted 4401's. Back at that early Nashville namm show --I could have bought them brand new for 400-500 bucks
So I spoke with Lakland and they said if the 5501 [year 2005] has splined/split [not solid] shafts on the pots its the same preamp they put in the US 55-94
