Hi, I was looking at some Decades on the lakland website and found their preamp adds $300 to the bass! It might also be they use humbuckers in it, but still! Is it really worth it. It's a lot cheaper to buy it passive and get a preamp you like for cheaper (unless you want a J/U-Retro and what not). Would you spend the extra $300? Is it a good preamp? -Roy
From the Lakland website: 2 Humbucked Chi-Sonics (these are switchblade to single coils - one switch throws both pickups into single coil mode or humbucked mode. Active bass can equipped with Single coils on request. The passive bass can be ordered with humbuckers (add $200 to list) So the preamp is $200 list, and the pickups are $200 list. Having not heard either version of these pups, I can't tell you if it's worth it, but if the preamp is the LH-3 module, it IS worth the extra money, flat out. I haven't found a more versatile module.
