I have an opportunity to choose between 2 basses. One is a Lakland 4-94 Classic, the other is a Lull MV4. The Lakland is in excellent condition (9 out of 10), the Lull is in good condition (7.5 out of 10). The Lakland is $1,250, the Lull is $1,000. If you had a choice between one or the other, which would you choose? Don't tell me apples and oranges, just which one is the better buy. (these aren't the actual basses. But they are just like them)
I deeply envy you your conundrum. EDIT: US Laklands are fabulous, in my experience, plus, that Lakkie will likely give you wider sonic capabilities than the Lull, buuuut I have a serious Lull fetish going on, and that natural/maple/black is my favourite non-coffeetable look. Lulls have as good a reputation as Lakland, so it's a tough choice. I just looked over your gear list. You've already got a Jazz, but it doesn't look like any of your Music Man axes are HS models, to teh Lakland might cover ground you don't already have covered in your toolbox.
I really love the Lakland body shape as well as a Jazz body shape. For me, I'd lean more towards the Lull because it's a Jazz bass. However, I think the Lakland may be a better deal?
Assuming it's not a Skyline I'd say the Lakland. If it's a Skyline then the Lull. Personally I'd go with the Lull.
Tough choice. The Lakland is slightly more versatile but if you need a Jazz then the only thing that will do is a Jazz. Both are good prices but the price on the Lakland is ridiculously low. If hou changed your mind you could probably make money on that deal. I would lean toward the Lakland ONLY because I like the color scheme a little more. Does the Lull have a gloss finished neck? The neck feel could make or break the decision for you. Also this should be a poll.
Then the Lakland is hands down the better deal. I'd still pick up the Lull, but that's my personal preference
As stated earlier the Lakland would be more versatile and would fit a nitch not covered by your MM basses Also the price sounds like a real deal!
Both have satin finish necks, which I slightly prefer. But gloss vs. satin isn't a big deal to me. I suppose I should have made this a poll...
There are good deals on Lulls fairly regularly. For that price I would do the Lakland and if you don't bond with it after awhile sell it and find a Lull. You will probably make out well as you could get a couple hundred extra for the Lakland if it doesn't work out.
