This bass is a limited edition, 2007 Lakland Skyline 44-64 in very good condition, with a hand-built Fred Hammon Darkstar pickup in place of the standard split coil. You can read about Darkstar pickups on the Web --- they have a devoted following. Its tone is solid, in p-bass territory, with somewhat more even string balance, a bit brighter, and nicely responsive to changes in attack. The neck is Jazz width (1.5" at the nut) and plays like a dream. The bass weighs 9.2 pounds and is strung with Ernie Ball Cobalt flats. Two disclosures: 1) The bass acquired a ding (on the front lower left--see photo). The candy apple red finish was a challenge to repair. A luthier mixed two shades of metallic nail polish, then added clear coat. It can be seen if you look for it, but I forget it is there. No additional issues -- the bass is in otherwise excellent cosmetic condition. 2) The Darkstar pickup is single-coil, and this bass is quiet in some environments and hums in others. Another luthier said he could line the cavity and improve grounding for $75-100, but I wasn't eager to put more money into the bass. All in all, a sharp looking, easy playing, and distinctive sounding instrument. Comes with a gig bag in good condition. $875 shipped in the continental U.S.(was $950).
