I'm looking to change out the Aero's for a set of the Dimarzio Model J's.

According to the dimensional drawing of the Model J's I got off BestBassGear.com they are slightly larger than the Aero's.
The difference in length is only 3/64" & 1/32"....

Has anyone replaced the DJ's Aero's with this particular Dimarzio pu?

Not sure about the Model J's, but I know someone who put Dimarzio Ultra Jazz's in a DJ, and they fit fine from what I remember.

Here is the Ultra Jazz dimensions:
    Bridge 3.735 long, .74 wide
    Neck 3.6 long, .74 wide

And here is the Model J's:
    Bridge 3.735 long, .74 wide
    Neck 3.6 long, .74 wide

Looks like they are the same, so I would assume the Model J's would fit.

They guy who put the ultra jazz's in is a TB member. His user id is FriztM, if you want to ask him to make sure.

I'm sure any regular 4 string J replacement would fit. I don't think Lakland would use a different pickup size just for one bass- it would make it more expensive for them to source pickups.

If it turns out that I prefer the Dimarzio's I'll let you know.

    FWIW...I'm also considering Villex....

I don't know....they do sound good, just not exactly what I like, hard to put into words...

I tried the models J's just to see what the difference would be, and they sound more p bass like, just a more solid, traditional passive tone.

It's a really nice sounding bass with either set of pu's in it.

Never heard of Lollar, got and sound bytes?
