    I just got a used 55-94.
I'm playing with the set-up of the electronics(Bart).
I've found the passive sound to be more open then the pre-amp.
The sound of the bass seems compressed overall.
    Any similar experiences?

I've felt that way with every bass I've ever played.

You could wait for the new Lakland pre-amp. I'm sure it will be great in its own respect, Dan only makes great products.

    Thanks for the reply.
Me too I love passive sound. I took out every pre=amps I had installed in my basses.
So you're saying that there is a new pre coming out from LKL?

I'll be curious even if I might stay passive. I'll continue to experiment with it.

Yes, Dan and the Lakland crew are releasing their own brand. They are coming out with pick-ups and a pre-amp. The other pick-up choices (Bartolini, Duncan, Dark Star) will still be available as well.

There's some information on the Lakland site here: http://www.lakland.com/lakland_pickups.htm
