Alright so I was planning on buying a new high end fretless 5, but I don't think I'll have quite enough cash to cover a bass over the 1500-2000 dollar range. So I have been browsing that range and was checking out some G&L's as well as Laklands, and just wondering how they are, and how they compare to each other. And also, if anyone can suggest some good fives strings (fretless or fretted) in the 1000-2000 dollar range, that'd be awesome. Thanks a bunch

    Maybe a used USA Lakland?
  3. Seriously,

A G&L Fretless 2500 (US-made version) is well within your price range is a new Skyline. Both are very well made basses - just different in their design and tonal palettes.

The G&L is going to have a BIG sound...the Lakland is probably going to be a bit more focused - that's a huge generalization, but I make it only to emphasize that your intended use and/or desired tone is very important to your decision.

Of course - this is only IMHO - YMMV.
