Land O' Goshen --- an alternative to a 5

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Michael Jewels, May 21, 2001.

  1. Just when we all thought that fat necks and 5 string range went hand in hand, someone has*stretched* the truth.

On page 30 of the current(June 2001) issue of Bass Player Magazine a Co. called Pearce Instruments has come out with
    "D" and "C" bass necks. They're 38" and 37.5" scale necks that
"fit directly to your bass and allow lower-than-standard tuning
with normal string gauges and tensions." They also say that the necks do not add to your bass' overall length so you can keep your case. They have very short headstocks. Which basses do they fit directly to? I assume Fender from the picture that accompanies the text. O.K. these don't have the full range of a fiver, down to low B, but, what are the opinions to this new idea? Sounds good to me.

While I don't really know much about those particular basses...I think the short headstock is what keeps the overal length the same. 4 inches shorter though? Hhhmm.

I would think that buying strings would pose a problem.
