Does anyone have any updated availability dates for the 5-string Sterling? The last I heard was "Spring/Summer 2006".

Should be announced at Summer NAMM, but I wouldn't expect them to ship until early next year.

How will it be different than a StingRay 5 since the SR5 has the same p/u and pre as the Sterling 4.

No one knows. We're guessing traditional oval pickguard. Im hoping itll be wired in series or have the 3 way switching, since the dual humbucker sr5's dont, only the 5 way pup selector. Maybe itll ahve a 3 way and a 5 way. Thatdb e a site.

Don't the Sterlings and Stingrays have different magnets in them?

IIRC, the Stingray has alnico magnets while the Sterling has ceramic ones.

Perhaps an expert can correct me if I'm wrong???

"The new Sterling5 will come in 35" scale and two fingerboard options, regular and wide. It will also sport a proprietary Sterling Ball/Demeter designed onboard preamp with switchable EQ centres."

    Can't wait!

    Haha, Funny stuff.

Just to clarify the Sterling and the SR5 used the same pickups and preamp. I would expect an oval pickguard on this one, but besides that I don't have any clue where they are going with it.

Yep... still hoping to see them sometime soon
  13. Old mate Poppa got too caught up in plans to make money off a John Myung endorsement, hence the Sterling 5 was put on the indefinite back-burner.

Did I type that out loud?

I don't like the sounds of the "indefinite" :(

Sigh... I'm much more interested in a Sterling5 than going gaa-gaa over how John Myung plays a Bongo6... :meh: Honestly, who gives a ****.
  16. I'd be all over them if they had oval pickguards. I am in the lookout for a good 5 string to replace my Ibanez

You did! And perhaps should have mentioned that you were pulling it all out of your bum. ;)

The Sterling 5 was rescheduled due to all of the new models, Anniversary models, BFRs, Limited Editions....which have been so popular that it's hard for production to keep up.

I'd look for an intro at NAMM 08 (January).

I hope it doesn't have too many switches...
I really like the sterlings body over the stingrays...
    And smaller nutwidth...
    And oval pickguard...
    I really want a 5 string...
Hope it's not too versatile... (I hate that)
  19. The Sterling body is so small, I don't think it can fit a 5 string neck. I hope they came up with a shweet looking body!
