Le Fay Herr Schwarz 5 in Natural Satin Finish. I'm the sole owner from new and she remains in immaculate condition. It’s very rare to see a Le Fay offered for sale and with good reason. They tend to be keepers and you’ll only want to add others; I don't know of anyone that stopped at just one after owning their first example. One of the most tonally versatile bass I've ever owned - flat out amazing! The sound and ergonomics are unparalleled - I’m a huge fan! The evenness and presentation of notes rivals the best carbon neck instruments - string to string balance, punch and sustain are unreal. In addition to a traditional JB sound, it can also cop very convincing Music Man and Ken Smith tones due to the pickup placement and toggle switch. P-Bass? No problem! There's a video out there on FB I believe, (sorry I couldn't find it) where the Dobbratz brothers demo'd three similar builds with varied wood combinations; this is the one that blew them away. This bass was not only the wood combo, but the *exact* bass. There's no guess work here, this one is a bad-ass! {} {} {} {} {} {} {} {} Specifications: Solid Ash body Natural satin finish Padauk carbon reinforced set neck w/ magnetic truss rod cover access Padauk fingerboard Mother-of-Pearl position markers Premium SS 24-fret w/ invisi-fret (frets and neck are pre-cut)* 3 Single-coil pickup system Dual Volume Dual Toggle Switches: parallel / single coil; active / passive Active Bass & Treble Controls, boost only Passive Tone (operates in both Active and Passive modes) Le Fay proprietary hardware, electronics and pickups. 1.75 nut width 19mm spacing 34” scale 9lbs 8oz Price one out, add in options*, factor exchange rate, shipping/import fees and build time (ouch). I know this has only been up for a day, but I thought it would have been gone by now. This thing is torturing me. Literally one of the only basses I’d consider giving up my AC for
Le Fay makes some of the best basses out there! Two brothers that have been honing their craft to produce beautiful instruments! If I didn't already have another Le Fay in the works, I would be on this. GLWTS!
Great looking Lefay! What's the balance like when sitting, does it still sit perfectly even though it has a headstock? And is the back of the body carved out for ergonomics?
Yes and Yes- each model is designed with these factors in mind. So while it’s shaped different than say a Pangton (headless & w/ more sculpting) it was engineered to be equally as playable and balanced as a whole.
My thanks to all for relating your experience and/or for your kind words. I’m also somewhat surprised it hasn’t sold… and though admittedly I wouldn’t mind hanging on to it indefinitely, it is still available.
Oh no say it isn't so...A Lefay ...and around tax time at that! If any of my TB brothers or sisters gives a rat's a** about me or my family, please step forward and buy this bass! PLEASE!!! {}
I took it as a challenge to find the video you spoke of… an hour later (I’m slightly obsessive/compulsive)… I struck out. Darn it!… on the plus side, I have watched many videos of Le Fay’s in action this morning. And Charles Berthoud is my favorite bass player of all time
(answered these questions in a message, figured I'd post them for all): I wasn’t being coy about the video- I’m not on FB, etc so it’s not an easy find. I'd actually found it post-purchase and found it anecdotal and a great stroke of luck. The bass was made either very late 2020 or early 2021 (<- more probable answer).
