learning the rest stroke

Discussion in 'Technique [BG]' started by MrTeatime, Jan 6, 2003.

  1. Okay, I've been playing free stroke for about 2 and a half years now, and I'm trying to learn the rest stroke but I'm finding it mighty difficult.

Basically when I pluck the strings, my fingers come up in some kind of wierd hooking motion. I figure this is part of the annoyance I'm having when I'm trying to bring my fingers to rest on the next string.

I can play the rest stroke alright, but whenever I do it sounds... how would you describe it... chunky? It's not smooth like my normal playing is. Is this just a result of not being proficient with the technique?

And if any one has some advice to help me learn this it would be much appreciated (aside from "practice" because I know that one already ;)
