Does anyone have any info on Les Paul "Recording" bass? I have never heard of such a thing and a friend of mine said someone is trying to sell one to him. Thanks guys. This is my first post. I just found this website and I might never leave it.

They were also called a "Triumph" bass. They looked just like the Les Paul Recording guitars, and I believe they were just made for a few years in the mid 70's. All natural mahogany with black binding, archtop, buncha knobs and buttons...

Les Paul Recording model guitars show up on eBay on a regular basis as well as the Les Paul Recording or "Triumph" bass. Lemme go see if there is one there now... nope, don't find one, but they do show up on a regular basis.

yeah i've seen those. they always have a totally flat body no contours on the front and back like a guitar. I think also the recordiing ones are solid and the standards are chambered.

  4. Nope...the Recording and Triumph basses had carved, contoured tops. The model you're thinking of is the LP Special, a 1990s creation. Somewhat uncomfortable, with a much more limited palette of tones than the earlier LPs.

Yeah... I posted it here before I looked at the price... maybe I'm just a cheap b%^@#&*d, but my tops for one of these things would be about $400 - $500, and at that price it had better have a case too.

They were also a short scale neck, I don't believe that they were as short as 30", maybe more like 32" scale but I'm not sure on that one.

I have a Gibson Les Paul Triumph (1973-74:confused: ) it looks exactly like the ebay bass (inclunding the original hard shell case:D)

-one piece honduran mahogany top/back (just two thick pieces), clear gloss mahogany finish.
-three piece mahogany neck, set in, 24 fret rosewood fingerboard, small blocks.
-Gibson soapbars, vol./tone/bass control knobs, pickup switch, phase switch, hi/low output switch, 3 way tone switch.
30-3/8" short scale, great sounding bass but damn heavy.....at least for a four string:D;)
