So... I'm just off to watch England vs Australia on Sky TV - it's the beginning of Ashes Summer in the Cricket!! :)

Who's going to come out on top in tests and one-day matches?

Finally we should get a good contest at least, as England have really improved since they last played...?

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to it and am hoping to see all the games on TV!

if I would only "get" this scoresystem...245 vs 869 ? Someone explained to me that those numbers are the runs, but running 800 times in a game of what, 2 hours? :eyebrow:

No it's all over now and that was after about 6 overs - the Aussies had lost 7 wickets !!!

They must all be asleep or hiding after their humilating defeat!! ;)

For anybody who doesn't understand and why I'm so :hyper: about this - go here :

Games can last up to 5 days... but even so, a score like 869 is almost unheard of in modern times - most captains would declare their score on about 500 and put the opposition in, giving them the opportunity to win rather than just have a draw.

There is no such thing as a 2 hour game - but in the shortest form of the game (which this was) 20-20 -you would be looking at 180 runs, as a very good score - on the high side!!

But that's what England did!! :D

Will someone give me the rules of Cricket?

Shortest version possible, if it is more than a paragraph long forget it.

Well basically, first one guy does something. Then another guy does something else. Then as a result of this some other guys do other things. Then some wickets happen and someone gets paddled. Then we all have a spot of tea and talk about what a smashing play that was. Then God saves the queen and we all brush our teeth with sugar.

That's the basics. Let me know if you have further queries.

yes, and according to popular legend, cricket is loosely based off of quidditch.
