Let's do away with away with this . This has bothered me since they first became available. IMO, its use is both disrespectful and juvenile, and I feel certain that many people have become angered by them.
I think it depends how you use it. I believe it can be used quite well to show when someone is being sarcastic. Not all sacasm is negative, so i say keep it.
I like it. It's good for responding to asinine comments, stupid suggestions, and all around rediculous posts.
It _is_ easy to interpret the as rude, even when it's meant in jest; but, I say keep it, it's up to the individual user if they want to risk being misinterpreted or coming across as an a-hole.
Aw "rolleyes"??? Naw, keep it. Some comments are just pathetic and nothing that is common currency on the web better conveys the frustration of putting up with assinine comments/people/situations without seeming hateful. If you can't deal with it.....
I can't think of even one time that I have seen it used constructively. This thread is the only time I have ever used it, and that was only to try to make a point. I seldom see it used in jest either, and I certainly don't require it to come across as an a$$hole.
You have never seen it used constructively. This thread is the only time you have used it. You seldom see it used in jest. You don't need it to be an ass. Ok. That is all well and good for you. How about... you never use it, and you just ignore all posts with one in it. That would solve the problem you are having without taking something away from the rest of us. Hey, would you look at that... I don't need it to be an ass either All jesting aside, honestly, it's just a trivial little thing. It doesn't matter that much. And if it does for some strange reason, then like I said, ignore the post that has it in it.
To help show frustration I think we should add this one http://www.talkbass.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=1010088
You can gloss it over all you want, it's still rude. I already don't use it, and nobody is going to ignore one, especially when it is their post that gets the treatment. Like it or not, it's a suggestion box. I'm making a suggestion.
