Was perusing my local craigslist and was amazed at what you can get for $500 these days.

Thought it would be fun to see what kind of rig you guys could cobble together from your local craigslist. Not just like a Squier + Peavey 50W combo type rig, but the "squeeze every last cent out of that budget" rig. Something that you would personally be willing to take out and play on tour (reliability is a factor).

    Lets set some ground rules:
    1) By "gig-able", I mean no First Act/Squier Affinity basses, Bugera/Raven/Behringer amps, PA cabs from the 1960's etc. I'm not saying that one couldn't gig with those, but it's just not that difficult to find that kind of stuff on a budget. So lets say any bass that would cost over $500 new, amp must be 150-Watts or more, cab must be 1x10" or larger (combos are fine).
    2) The entire rig must be from your LOCAL craigslist (not nearby areas) and the asking price is the price. No "I already have a bass so I can get this amp for $500" or "I can probably talk this guy down to $X.XX".
    3) Projects are OK, but you must factor in all the costs to finish off the project.

I'll post my rig in the next post. Game on!

  3. This may be a bit off the topic, but I checked the local CL to see whats for sale. I have no money anyway, but I saw a 1978 Fender Bassman with 4/10's for sale for 600.00. I thought if it were in good shape that would be a pretty good price for a tube amp. If anyone wants to check it out its in the Ft Myers CL. Sorry I'm off topic but maybe I'll try to play tomorrow!

Haha, we both chose Peavey USA Foundations - great basses for the $$$
That BX600 combo is a great value. Lots of juice for very little coin.

Silverface Bassman's don't seem to be going for much these days:
Late 1970's Fender Bassman Ten Silverface 410 Bass / Guitar Amp, 4x10's #28297

Vintage amps in general are spiraling down in value. Notice a lot of vintage amps on my craigslist for insane prices.

Nice! That Ashdown MAG 4x10 combo is a great find. But I don't know about the Peavey Fury though; that was low end bass even back in the day. I'd say get:
    Peavy foundation bass - $200
    With Hard case too

    Saw this too:
    Fender heartfield prophecy I bass
    Cool MIJ bass

I would've picked either of those but I was staying in the Cleveland Craigslist...(the snark is cross posted)

The Fury was a formidable P-Bass clone made in the USA! that is actually a good deal too!

I would totally gig this rig!

Ah, I see. I did search Akron based on the Snark. Yes, the Fury was a good bass too, no doubt, just that MSRP was $100 or so lower than the Foundation.

    Affinities ain't giggable??

Maybe change wiring and jack if you don't trust the previous owner, but they are 100% gigable.

I have never felt that my gigs with a Squier have been worse than my gigs with my MIA Fender... by any means!

    Having said that,
There's a Squier VM Jaguar (longscale) in my zone for 170 dollars

and then there's this H&K 200w combo for 330 dollars
    BK200

    Done!

As I said in my original post: "I'm not saying that one couldn't gig with those, but it's just not that difficult to find that kind of stuff on a budget". I want to see what other TB'ers can come up with that is not typical. It's just more interesting if every post is not "Squier VM + combo". :)

That's a cool H&K combo...I remember when they first put those out.

ok this goes a little over your budget but who wouldn't dig a little deeper into the kids college fund for these famous brand names?

    upload_2016-2-6_6-3-43.

Don't mind me I'm just frustrated that I can't find any decent deals in my neck of the woods!
