I'm considering doing a build with walnut and maple. I want to see some of the designs that you guys have out there. Preferably custom builds, but anything will do!

My JAF 5er - walnut and ash (I believe) for the body, neck is maple and I think purpleheart.

Carvin neck-thru blank, bookmatched walnut top over a mahogany body. G&L MFD pickup. Scroll top.

Yes, it was modeled after an early WishBass I owned.

This is rather off the beaten path, I had this bass uke modified to look like a Rickenbacker walnut, though it's only stained a walnutish color, not real walnut. I would love to have one in real walnut, maybe a future custom.

I also have one, but too lazy to post. ;-) There are already several threads on walnut here, please use the search function.

My Carvins. The sixer is my main player. The four-banger was built from a kit. Both were ordered direct from Carvin, so they're "quasi-custom" I guess....

This is a Tele made from a walnut-capped sugar pine slab body. It's finished in Danish oil.

i'm a full on maple guy, but used a walnut back on a custom build to mix it up. love the contrast. i'm now jonesin' for a figured walnut bass....but I think I will attempt to make my own, as I have some nice figured walnut on hand.

Walnut is on the heavy side, but very beautiful. Mine chambered and the bass still came out a little north of 10 lbs.

Mahogany is a good and lighter option but the grain is very different.

This fall, I built an experimental version of my AMB-2 Scroll Bass, all in walnut. The neck and body are walnut, and the pickguard is walnut veneer on black Garolite. The finish is clear water-base Varathane, sprayed on thin and scrubbed to a satin sheen. It came out great, and I'm working on two more of them right now.

More details and a review by the owner are over on the Love Of Ampegs Part 2 thread.

+1. My sixer on the previous page is almost 12 lbs (5.4 kg), and even the four-string is over 10 lbs (4.5 kg).
