Just got done assembling/setting up my parts P-bass (MIJ body, MIJ Jazz neck, 62 RI pickup, traditional bridge) and it sounds great, with one exception - the low E is "deader" than the other strings. The 3 others ring with piano like clarity but the low e sounds, well, dull.

Im playing through an Ampeg B2R into an Epifani 2x10, but think it should be able to handle the low E.

My thoughts are either bad string (though it is the same age as the others, bad saddle or bad fit in the nut.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

    Thanks

I agree totally with Josh's suggestion about starting with the string.

It could also be a poorly cut nut, too. I had a dead-sounding E on an import bass years ago, (Japanese...back when "Made in Japan" meant "junk").

The string was being "pinched" in the nut slot and couldn't vibrate properly.
