    oh boy, here we go...

with my recently acquired penchant for polls and some recent discussions about Lightwave basses, i thought i'd run a poll about....

    Lightwave Basses!

I'm guessing there are only 3 of us here that own a Lightwave powered bass. If there are more...STEP UP!!!

There seems to be some misconceptions about Lightwaves...spread by reviews, ads, player comments, and FEAR!!!!!!!!! :D

So, lets have a show of hands...check out the poll, ask questions...

    ps...i don't work for them.

Hey guys, I've got one, aquired used, and I'm still figuring out what strings I like with it. One thing was a bit disconcerting in the original manual, and that was the strong recommendation to use taperwound strings. ?? If this is such a versitile system, and they have encouraged experimenting with string types, then why the taperwound restriction? I havent' seen any taperwound nylon core ABG strings yet...I'm using the Thomasitk's right now, and I like them, except they keep stretching out. It's like they wont settle. The system seems to have great bloom, and fills a room nicely, but I haven't found the setup to get some cut in a rock band. I guess I should just break down and try some tapers, although I dont really like them, especially since I don't think anyone makes taperwound nickel plated strings.

  7. fred... did you vote on your own poll yet!

I'm the first to vote that "I Love It!"? Or, are you the "60s Jazz" guy???

Talking about new innovative basses, whatever happened to the Parker Fly basses from a few years back? They were supposed to be next new thing, but now I don't see them anywhere...

The only Parker Fly bass in existence belongs to Steve Swallow. Ken Parker was making noises about a production model about a decade ago; nothing's come of it, though.

As for the Lightwave, I can't really see the point. Mags and piezos work just fine, don't cost a mint, and don't require phantom power, fancy electronics, light blinders, and massive body routs. The Lightwave system seems to be technology for technology's sake.

Yamaha installed optic pickups on its G10 guitar synth a while back. Wasn't a big hit, as far as I can recall.

    christopher:

    you fit neatly into the...

"I've heard of them, but think high tech belongs in outer space, not on a bass."

    poll selection.

with your opinion, we should stop all technological development, because everything seems to be working "just fine".
