Like many other TBers, I'm looking for the lightest bass possible. If there are others out there with the same interest, I'd like to start compiling a database with real, accurate data. If you would like to participate in this, you'll need to get a reasonably accurate scale - like a digital fish scale

Berkley Digital Fish Scale | Bass Pro Shops: The Best Hunting, Fishing, Camping & Outdoor Gear

Bathroom scale just isn't going to cut it. I'd suggest we start by weighing the lightest basses we have in our personal collections (or friends), and then maybe expand to what is on display in music stores.

    Anyone interested?

How about and Elrick Evolution 5 -string, 34" scale at 7.1 lbs.

    E2015_F-2.

It's real. Measured on an accurate commercial digital scale.

I use a Mustad digital fish scale.

My Hofner Ignition Club bass weighs 4lbs 8oz.

    My '63 Silvertone Model 1444 weighs 5lbs 10oz and my early 60's Kay Truetone weighs 5lbs 8oz.

I haven't weighed them recently but my memory is my GT Mbass, Kala Ubass, and Ashbory all weigh a few ounces under 3lbs.

I had a Danelectro/Coral Wasp that was extremely lightweight. I haven't had it since the early 1980s, so weighing it would be tough, but it weighed nothing much. My guess is that it weighed in the 5-6 lb range.

The use of decimal pounds has come up on another board so I'll just ask...Does 7.1 lbs mean 7 lbs 1 oz, or 7 and 1/10 pounds? They're about the same in that case but there was confusion whether the number after the decimal point was ounces or tenths of a pound...such as 7.12 lbs could be either 7lbs 12oz or 7lbs 2oz.

Unless every iteration of a particular bass has an identical weight, I can't see how this database can be useful.

Probably best if you don't look at the data then.

It just occurred to me that a lot of light basses are going to be short scale. When you post the weight of a bass, could you please also include the scale length? Thanks.

I'm 100% behind you, but be warned, it's been attempted before, by TBer @Pilgrim. I think he got frustrated by some of the ambiguous, meaningless data the he was getting swamped with. Just a guess; I would have!

Time to tell the truth: how much does your bass weigh?

I'm off to collect data. I'll be back. :D

Interesting. I know sweetwater lists the weight for the nice basses, and the same model can vary by over a pound.
I'll do the bathroom scale dealio. BRB.

In this case, at least, it means 7 and one-tenth pounds.

I believe Basslab are quite light, claiming 5-8lbs depending on the model.

My birdsong (31" scale) is about 6.5 lbs and my kala 5 string (23" scale) is less than 5. Conversely, my friend's Ibanez artist bass (late 70's) weighs in at over 13 lbs...
