i think this has been posted somewhere before but anyway here i go...at school yesterday i was walking to class when on the wall i saw a peice of paper on the wll saying "Bassist and Drummer wanted" automatically i grabbed it read on. this is what the whole note said. "We are looking to jam with any willing bassists and drummers. Our infulences are many and varied. Attitude and willingness to learn is more important to us than how well u play your instrument. We dont want this to be set up like an audition. If youre the right person, it will natuarally work out anyway. We like to it more of a jam than an audition. If it works well great, in not, bummer. You have bothin to loose" then it goes on to have the phone number and web site ect ect. I am going to go to this "audition and do my absolute best accept i dont have any idea what they want me to play. WHAT DO I DO?!? im stuck because this is the first "Jam/Audition" i have been involved with. well thanks for your help.
Just go for it. Everybody who goes to auditions gets rejected at least once.. And like they say : " you have nothing to lose " If they want you, cool.. If they don't want you.. screw the bastards ! they're probably not worthy of your skills anyway
damn right im gonna go for it but what should i play? do i ring them up and ask them what they play and then go learn it or just "show off" or what?!?
It's a jam just show up. What I would do in that situation is run through some scales/chords/harmonics/whatever for peace of mind just before you go to the jam/audition. I reckon that 'they' are trying to make candidates less nervous. Go, play your heart out and have fun.
if u want my advice, play the most impressive thing u cna that way it will show u've got talent!! I probably play rancid - maxwell murder cos ne1 who see's me play it seems to be impressed by it!!
Are u going to be playing with other instruments? If so it shouldn't be that bad to just jam with them. If u have to go solo good luck, that would be akward for me anyways.
Everyone so far seems to have the same opinion as I do, just show up, you'll know within the first hour or so if you guys have a good shot at working out. Also you'll find out what all of you have in common.
Call 'em up, for God's sake! Why on earth would you not call and ask what they're into? Find out a few songs they do so you have some common ground. What if you show up and they want to play alt bluegrass?
