    hello,

i've checked the archive, and was unable to find anything relevant to my problem, so here goes....

I have a hartke 4000 head, which has no limiter or compression, and i'm have trouble with the e string on both my basses causing the amp to clip.

would a limiter or compression pedal help? and what would you recommend? (i'd rather a pedal than rackmount).

It's got to be cheaper than trading in a relatively new amp!

    thanks,
    phil.

I had the same problem on the majority of my basses, until I got hold of an MXR Limiter. I don't think they make them anymore, but you can get lucky on Ebay. It's a great limiter/compression that's true to your original sound. They really wotk.

Try lowering the pickup under the E string.
