Anyone got one of these purple stomp boxes ? Bass player mag seemed to like them this month, but does it really get you that Mu-tron sound ? I've got an EBS Bass-Iq pedal which I like, but I like to have as many toys as possible. If you have one - then what are your thoughts ? what are the sounds like ? Do you use it often or has it already been left out of your gig bag ? Thanks in advance guys.
Well, I'm not surprised. BP mag likes EVERYTHING. I'm very curious about them as well. I'm not one for a lot of effects, but this box has caught my eye.
Digital "modeling" is creepy.....go buy your self a REAL Mutron III...analog is more "present", more "organic." I tried the FM4 and it was cool but didn't really out-do my Korg (all be it digital...) G5 bass synth and original Musitronics analog filter in unison....that re-issue is just a toy.
Ok...I've been playing this thing for a while now and (big news) I don't hate it. Haven't found much use for the synthesizer models but the basic Mutron III models are not half bad at all. It is not analog so I'll never take it THAT seriously as any sort of replacement for my vintage 'Tron but I just wanted to say that it isn't as bad as it could be. My measure of "quality" is how smooth and "squelchy" the filter sweep is. Some trashier EV filters just don't interact with your playing that well, sound artificial and will sweep in a more "zipper-like" fashion; this one doesn't. I can get it to crap out due to it's lack of any input level control so if you have a really hot output on your bass then forget it. Having this sort of parameter control via the programmable footpedal accessory over your regular Mutron III would be a huge plus IMO so I may still score one at some point. Just some thoughts...
