I agree that awards are not in perfect relationship with talent. However, when you look at the people who win Handy's year in and year out: B.B. King, Koko Taylor, Pinetop Perkins, and Willie Kent, you realize that Willie is in very elite company. Being a member of the blues community (my wife was just named one of the 10 great women in Chicago blues, and her CD is currently #20 on the national blues charts) I can tell you that no blues bass player is held in higher esteem. For what it is worth, Willie is also one of the very best human beings I have known in my life.
