Loïc Le Pape : basses made of steel!

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by El Presidente, Apr 12, 2009.

  1. Hi folks!

First of all, 'scuze my english, I'm French...;)

I just want to introduce you my new bass, the Rick-o-Steel, handmade by a french luthier: Loïc Le Pape.

    Delano active preamp
    Delano JB neck pickup
Delano The Hybrid (a MusicMan humbucker and a JB alnico in the same pickup!)
Mapple neck (Jazz Bass C shaped), satin urethane finish, rosewood fingerboard, 20 frets
    Gotoh machines heads
    Badass III bridge
Steel body engraved with roses
    Abalone Cross inlays

It looks like but I wanna say that it's NOT a resonator bass! The building process is different than Trussard's instruments, Loic use forged steel, and the sound is very close to wood's sound, with deeper sustain and mediums.

I will post soundclips next week, so you'll can make yourselves an opinion.

    Thanx! :hyper:

Um. Wow cant even describe this.

I dont know any words in English, French, Spanish, or any other country that could describe this.

    How heavy is that?
  4. I forgot the weight : 4,5 kg - 9,9 pounds... It's an hollowbody... ;)
  5. Oh my God.
  6. nice steel art but I would like to know also. From the backshot looks like it is hollowed out and filled with some kind of resin? Donc combien elle pese, ta basse? :) Et on attend les soundclips avec impatience!

(EDIT took too long to post, replied already)

Looks alot like a Ric! I see another lawsuit coming.
  8. Best described?Functional Art,'nuff said.
  9. Do you have a closer pic of the back of the body and neck joint?

It does look like another Ric C&D order in the making though. Good luck.

Yeah, I also worry about a Ric lawsuit.

Can they sue even if its not to the same guidelines exactly? The one Schecter looks a lot like a Ric, but is different. Im sure this isnt an exact template build. :meh:

I think Ric rarely bother with similar style basses overseas.
  13. You'll can see the others guitars and basses made by Loic here : http://www.myspace.com/loiclepape

This bass is an unique model, so I don't think that Rick US will sue anyone for this...

Wait, what ? this thing looks hot.

It looks a bit like the Lemmy bass.
  15. Wow what an interesting and beautiful bass!!!
  16. The Lemmy's Rickenbastard was an inspiration for me, I do agree. :smug:

Their design patent only applies in USA.

Wow. We need sound clips. I have an aching suspicion this bass will debunk the whole "tone wood" issue.
