I know a lot of people think of eating crab when they think of San Francisco. Have you ever heard on an
It's It? Those are local favorites around here. It is vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two oatmeal cookies. There are subtle flavors like cinnamon too. When I first moved here you could only get them at a few places and they came in waxes paper bags. Now they have a factory and you can get them in most stores too. They have come out with different flavors but I still like the original.

They were invented in 1928 at Playland at the Beach. My wife still remembers that place fondly and It's It was as much of a memory as the fun house.

A local treat in these parts are called "Gobs". They come in many types and flavors with the traditional being two chocolate cakes with different types of icing in the middle. No, they are not whoopie pies. We even have gob baking contests here.

Man, I miss gobs. I haven't found a place up here in PacNW that makes/sells them. Everyone thinks they're the same as whoopie pies :(. I make them for myself about twice a year.

If you ever had the Yost's Dutch Maid gobs that use the old Harris Boyer gob recipe, you can order them to be shipped. Their phone number is (814) 266-3191.

They are completely different than the other types of gobs with the thick icing and cakes.

    SoCal...burritos? In-n-Out?

When I think of Frisco (Yeah, that's right! I called it that!), I think clam chowder in a sourdough bowl.

The ones I know/love are like the 3rd picture you posted. That kind of whipped/fluffy texture is what my grandmother and mother made.

Me too. Around here, the ladies auxiliary at the Solomon Run Fire Department make those types of gobs and they are fantastic. I went there a few times on the night they make them and they would come warm out of the oven and they would put an ice cream scoop of icing between two warm chocolate cakes and wrap them up fresh. YUM! drool
