What do you guys make of this? I know absolutely nothing about Rickenbackers... The add says: "CLASSIC, 1980's, BASS GUITAR. Model 4003 copy. White and black. Schaller heads, stereo plug and normal plug, twin pick ups. Very good condition. No case. Email for photos."
I emailed the guy and asked if he knew the story behind the bass, and if it seems resonable I'll go down there and play it a bit. Still waiting to hear back though.
those pics aren't the greatest, but thats a pretty decent looking copy. The only thing that really jumps out at me is the TRC. Is it NT? Even the copies can be fairly valuable.
My gut says, for a copy, this has a lot in common with the real thing. Ask the owner if it has any letters/numbers on the jack plate as well.
I own an 80's jetglo (black) Rickenbacker, & if that's a fake, it's a good one. Is it a neck thru? Pix of the back of the bass would help... ...and how much $$$...???
my gut says it is NT, jsut because, as you said, its a pretty good copy. How much is indeed a good question.
Just emailed him again asking for pics of the back and output jack. I think the add said $350, which is why I'm so interested... I've always loved the look of Rickenbackers, but nobody in Winnipeg carries them, so I've never got a chance to try one out. At $350 that seems like a pretty good deal from what you guys are saying. Like I said, I know nothing about Rickenbackers except that Chirs Squier and Geddy Lee used them, so all the input is nice. Thanks!
$350? Wow, even for a copy that is cheap. Dont buy it unless you try it out first though. Ive seen good copies go in the $700+ range.
Who made a Rick copy besides Bradley and maybe Univox? I'm betting bolt on and would check for a straight neck as a potential problem. Looks good in the photo!
Yeah, I asked if I could give him a couple of my other basses as collateral and take it home for a day or two to play around with. We'll see what he says. Thanks again for the input.
Tons of off-shores, even Ibanez. OP, 350 is a great deal if its playable and not screwed up. I'd ovver him 300 though because thats in my nature. Check it out first, look for binding seperating, obvious repairs, electronics issues, the usual. If all that is good, I'd take it. There is really no reason why that shouldn't be a great bass if its in working order.
