Most solos I play are in locrian mode.
It sounds wicked whatever the style.
perfect to darken a happy song of put fury into a mellow tune.

Hi Garrett, good to see you back.

Locrian perhaps has more application in Jazz than, say, metal, I would think.

Half-diminished chords (AKA, m7b5 - or, minor 7th with flat 5th) are one candidate.

It's might be worth pointing out that the flat 2nd is something of an "avoid note" in this case. A better scale to use over half dim chords might be the 6th mode of the melodic minor. The only difference between that and Locrian is that it doesn't have a flattened 2nd.

    So, B Locrian would be:

    B C D E F G A B

Whereas the 6th mode of melodic minor, transposed to B, would be:

    B C# D E F G A B

The C# works well over a half-diminished chord.

Still, play the scale, internalise its sound, and you never know where you'll find a use for it.

    moley,

Locrian #2 is the sixth mode of the melodic minor scale, also known as half-diminished.

Yea figures, I don't like jazz, guess that's why I'm having trouble making use of it =P

    So don't use it.

Locrian is an available color, nothing more. If you were a painter, there's no rule that says you have to use red.

I dig Locrian. It can sound sinister yet peppy - in a demented circus kind of way.

Is the Locrian mode in any way related to the "Tone-Locrian" mode?

Six of one, 4 of the other. ;)

  18. That'd be you, if anything. Aren't we suppose to be open minded here?

So what if I don't like jazz...I don't yell at people who don't like classical. To each his own.

By the way, "warrant" is spelled w-a-r-r-a-n-t

  19. Hey you bastard, I thought you left. Yeah, I'm a Dust Devil man myself ;)

    And Pacman

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I was just trying to write a riff for each mode, and locrain was being a little whore :D
