Any Lollar Jazz PU users out there? Any expert opinion on them comparing to Fender CS Jazz PU? Worth pulling the latter out from my 71 jazz for the former?

I checked out the Lollar website, and they sound pretty impressive to me.

The Lollar is fanstastic, I absolutely love mine

The Fender CS is a worthy PU too

The Lollar has more low mid umph and more harmonic richness, and a bit of growl.
The Lollar is darker than most JB pickups but harmonics are not hard to get on my 4 month old ken smith nickels

the Fender is a bit cleaner sounding, more balanced across the spectrum and a tad brighter, but not shrill.

    Thanks

Agreed with you on the Fender CS PU

Looks like the Lollars might be what I am looking for... a little more Uumph.

    Anymore users opinions, pls.

I love the CS in my Classic Jazz, but I also loved the tone of the Lollars on their website. Subscribed!

Never miss a chance to rave about Lollars...
    his single coil j's kill!
I have a set in a fretless jazz and a set in my modified Marcus Miller. Very clean, full and dare I say, musical sounding to my ears. I can't say enough good things about mine. I've talked to him a couple of times, and emailed him a few, and he is an absolute sweetheart.
I have no experience with the Fenders, but I love me some Lollars!

Hands5, did you keep the Marcus stock preamp with the new pups? I would like to hear some clips if you have them. I am going back and fourth now on which pups to put in my Marcus. I am looking for that warm Fender sound kind of....

    The Lollars are in.

The difference between the Fender CS and Lollars are not huge. The Fender CS are good (despite the neck PU was bloody wrongly wired, black and white reversed), but the Lollars are BETTER, a little bit of here and there. The Lollars are a tad louder, warmer, better string balance and growler. A bit of bass boost on the amp EQ with the tone back off to about 50%, the sound is just sweet, warm, "butter" smooth and no mud. The bridge PU is just wickedly lovely.

I think with DR Sunbeam, it should be even sweeter. It is now with DR Fatbeam. The Lollars made me discover my love of passive Jazz again. (I mostly play my 71 Jazz with a Sadowsky Outboard Preamp) PS the lollars are great with the Sadowsky, too.

FIRE-STARTER, I also have a Marcus bass, too, the original PUs IMO sound very thin, the Lollars would definitely be a good choice for a GOOD "Vintage" Jazz sound. I would suggest also you to stick with the original Preamp and see if it tastes right for you, first. IMO, the original Marcus preamp is pretty good and does not add too much colour to the Jazz Tone.

BTW, I change my Marcus bass with Dimarzio Ultra Js and John East Marcus Retro Preamp (Great stuff, too) for more versatility, that PULL for bright knob is DANGEROUS:D!!! Mr East should have put a warning sticker on it.:D

FINALLY, I AM IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH LOLLAR AND EAST, I AM JUST A HAPPY CUSTOMER WITH THEIR PRODUCTS AND SERVICE!!!:hyper:
