Real simple question here: is there much of a difference tonally between a Jerry Jones Longhorn bass and the Shorthorn?

I'm thinking of picking one up as i quite like the longhorn tone, but I prefer the look of a shorthorn. And yes, I'm sure most of you think they're both quite ugly. I might be crazy, but what the heck, right?

I own and have owned several of Jerry's instruments, none of which was a Shorthorn tho', but I doubt there would be much sonic difference between the two basses. Call 'em up, Jerry usually answers the phone, ask him.

I used to own a JJ Longhorn, and I didn't notice any difference in tone with the Shorthorn.

Whew... got a chance to tool around with a shorthorn yesterday. What a great little bass that thing is!

I didn't get it up too loud, but it sounded dang good, that's for sure. Obviously it's not going to get as "big" of a sound as a full-sized fender, but used in the right context do you think with a little overdrive I could still get a full-sounding overdriven rock tone or would that be hoping for too much?

For my current band I need both a polite thump and a wee bit of raucous grind, but man, I think I've fallen in love with the shorthorn...
