Hey again, Talkbass! So due to the issues at my new house I was forced to get a portable rig, and it finally got here - right on my bday! For the first time since I moved in here I was able to play my bass without any problems and I am soooo happy! Just spent a few good hours going away on my spector So, here's the deal. The amplifier itself feels great and heavy. I believe it is made out of aluminium, which feels the same as any Apple device. It's heavy for its size, rugged and has some good features. The amp acts as both a headphone amp and an interface so you can plug it in directly to your machine and start recording, which means one less dongle to worry about. On one side it has 2 stacked knobs and a headphone out along a battery indicator (lithium rechargeable battery). The knobs are gain for the input, volume for the input and line out as well as aux in I believe, then on the other side it has a bass cut/boost and a treble cut/boost. On the opposite side of the device there is an on/off switch, an instrument in, line out, aux input and and USB port for connecting it to a computer or recharging. What hit me right away is just how clean and good this sucker sounds, honestly. It's loud in my headphones and clean as it could be, I really dig it. I probably should have gotten this from the get go when I started playing the bass, would have saved me a lot of hassle, space and time to be honest. It has some fancy features like recording up to 384Khz and other crazy stuff, no idea who would want that though, like it's an absolute overkill but hey, there you go! Some photos! Thanks Talkbass
I do believe that's considered one of the best bass headphone amps currently available. Sweet. I'm a PJB fan, have their Briefcase Pro, but haven't tried the headphone amp.
The size and shape remind me of my old L. R. Baggs Gig Pro belt clip preamp I use with my early model Taylor 410 guitar.
I've never tried one, but they seem to get great reviews, just like most Phil Jones products. Congrats a great choice and happy birthday!
Congrats! I just got these 2 last week! My previous rig was so heavy and I never really pushed it too loud.
I have the older/lesser(?) version of that. I thought it finally gave up the ghost (had it since it was released), but after a few sprays of deoxit it cleared out all the issues. Very happy with PJB products.
Happy birthday! And good score on the PJB. Phil Jones himself is one of my heros in the speaker design world. He has designed some of the great loudspeakers of the 80s-today. The bass gear looks a little weird, but OMG does it sound good!
Congrats on the new headphone amp! Looking at your pics it occurs to me that I've never played bass in my kitchen.
That's pretty cool! It does remind me of an Apple product. I always appreciate when designers take time to do something different when releasing a new product. Happy birthday btw!
Hooray for being able to play your bass(es) without any hum in your new home! Hopefully some longer term solution for the wiring to your house will present itself, and allow you to use your amp as well, but for now I'm sure this has got to feel like a total win. I've also had to turn to headphone playing in recent times (apartment living, trying not to be horrid to the neighbours), so I definitely appreciate being able to follow your recent quest
1. Happy birthday, and congrats for getting to play buzz-free bass in your house as part of a birthday present. 2. Thanks for the update; your gear acquisition update threads I’ve read have been clever and entertaining. 3. If you put the PJB Bighead down in your kitchen and get distracted, will you be able to find it? It seems like it’s the ideal camouflage for a stainless kitchen.
