ALL of his prices are like this.
Is this dealer's initials B'sBP? It's been listed there for awhile. I'm guessing that he'll come down--otherwise he's dreaming, especially now that MM has a new blueburst with sparklyflakes! fc (I love blueburst!)
No, I don't think that he will. Go to his site, and check out his prices. he's hopelessly out of touch with reality. whttp://www.promusicfind.com/billysbassplace
This one's even better: Used; BASS; MUSICMAN; STING RAY; 1988; NEAR MINT; NEAR MINT SUNBURST FINISH--POPLAR BODY--MAPLE NECK--BLACK PICKGUARD--GREAT FRETS--NEW STING RAY MUSICMAN CASE; $2695.00
I bought a set of Fralins from him awhile back for a good price. He's selling this Fender body on eBay right now that's a little "suspect," just because the CS doesn't release "seconds". http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1474476328
sounds sketchy to me. Brand new Stingrays can be had for $1400 or so... throw in the piezo pups and you may have to pay 1500 or a bit more but $2000 is rediculous... just ridiculous
I've seen this guy's id on Ebay a fair bit. He trolls around different vintage and semi-vintage items, trying to pick up a bargain that he can then sell for 2 or 3 times the price he paid. I really hate guys like this. I'm quite interested in vintage gear, and you see these guys all the time. They take an item, like the Stingrays mentioned, and then pass it off as a collectable vintage item. It's wankers like this who are responsible for all the overpriced late 70's Fender basses you see, because, regardless of the utility value of an instrument, they drive the price up knowing that someone will be gullible enough to believe that it really does have some inherant vintage value. These guys should really be avoided, because they are just the worst example of a used car salesman.
There are always speculators out there that artificially drive up the price of collectibles. The same thing happened a few years ago with muscle cars. The true limited production muscle cars did have true value, but all of a sudden everyone with an old Malibu or grandma's old Pontiac T37 thought they had a gold mine and jacked the price up on crap. Now we see things like "vintage" 1983 Jazz Basses (!) and $2000 1977 Precisions.
I remember trying to buy a pearloid pickguard for a MM5 from him, and he wanted $75 for it. He said that it was a discontinued model. Got the same one @ GC for $24. Someone ordered it, and them changed their mind. BTW, he lives about 2 miles from me.
Does he actually own a store, or is he an internet operator? Also, whoever said he's a speculator is kinda right, only a speculator predicts a market trend. What guys like this do is imply there is a market that doesn't actually exist. It's verging on false advertisement, only it isn't, because he's not saying anything that's not true, he's just using terminology that would normally indicate a collectible bass. And he won't go outta business, because there are always gonna be people, particularly younger inexperienced players, who are gonna be sucked in by this wankers dribble. BTW, anyone interested in buying pre-Tokiyokiyojo Samick bass in completely original condition? $1000!!
