Looking for a 1/4 size bass neck to purchase

Discussion in 'Basses [DB]' started by GretschWretch, Nov 14, 2017.

  1. Boy, after what's been going on here recently I'm really leery of sticking my head above the parapet with this thread, but I have a curiosity I want to satisfy.

Ever since its product launch I have been intrigued by Toby Chennel's Arco Bass, an IMO superb but unicorn-rare instrument. I've scrutinized the pics for proportions and have a hunch that the AB very nearly replicates a 1/4 DB neck mated to a 4/4 cello body, but I cannot test my hypothesis.

4/4 cello bodies I have, and some unmated DB necks as well, but no 1/4 DB neck. Does anybody have or know of someone who has a 1/4 DB neck/fingerboard for sale at a not unreasonable price? Cosmetics are unimportant; playability is.

My "project" falls under the rubric of "is this thing do-able"?

    Thanks in advance.

I had written to @Mark Gollihur about getting some parts in the white wood a while ago. He was able to quote me on parts (more than just the neck) which he can source. I would check with him and see what he can provide. Hopefully you are OK with woodworking equipment and can do some work to make it fit.

I have a Chennell Arco.. the body size is more similar to a 1/8 size bass, and the neck is comparable to an E-bass neck in mensur, ar 34”. It also has an “F” neck

  6. Visit the Englehardt website. I believe necks (and fingerboards) can be purchased separately. @Steven Ayers would know for sure.

Yes, last I knew Englehardt-Link sells repair parts. Why not just buy from them, GW?

  8. Last time I looked, E-L only listed parts for 3/4 DBs, nothing for downsized. I will revisit the site.

I don't see that Tom puts much effort into online presence, a phone call might be more productive.

Thanks Gretsch , and Steven. old neck on my 1st bass is going to be a safe, and will somewhere in a year or so if i fell i could sell , I may be contact then. From what i have seen those new replacements from engle hart dovetail is cut out way to thin. Don't enough about settings necks to know where you could make them to stay in or not. Now the neck i speaking about even could have been a different model. Appreciate your responses. Now on to refinishing the shoulders about 14 in front and sides, and tieing in to old finish. Bass was my dads since i was a small child, refinishing entirely is out of the question. Thanks again. Barry
