Okay, any advice would be helpful, so I at least know where to start looking.

I have a G&L SB-2 (4 string) and I play through a ampeg B3. But I am playing out more and more so I need a back up. But instead of buying something cheap for "just in case." I want to buy something fun and different. First I thought fretless. But that wouldn't be a good back up, because I'd have to start playing fretless, which I assume would take a while.

So I'm thinking about getting a 5 string with a more modern body style and tone. And I have between $500 and $1000 to spend depending on how long it takes me to find the right bass. Or I could spend $500 on a new bass and $500 on anew amp?

    What'd'ya thunk?

  3. Hmm, for that price range I'd try an Ibanez BTB. Pretty good 5er, and pretty modern.
