looking for an inexpensive replacement jazz neck

    i've noticed that the two choices are rosewood and maple.
    what's the difference?

  5. there is still discussion about how much of an impact the fretboard has on the tone of the bass, but the general idea is that maple is punchier, while rosewood is a bit more mellow

  7. Consider the feel as well - rosewood is unfinished and feels softer, whereas maple is glossy and hard under your fingers.

    hadn't realized that - i guess i'd better head off to the guitar shop and try the two side by side.
     
  9. Mighty Mite necks go for $100 +/- and are good quality.
