I'm looking for a very cheap deal on dual 4x10's and a head. But I need to know how cheap is too cheap. I also need to be advised on what I should look for in new and used cabinets. I barely even know where to start on all of this, so if you have any other advice that you think would be relevant, please include it. By the way, I use a DigiTech BP-200 Multi Fx Pedal and a Schecter Diamond Series 4 with active-soapbar pickups.

Yeah what lo-freq said about cabinets. Avatar makes really good cheap cabinets but as far as heads go i would recomend a carvin off of ebay

Carvins are pretty unreliable, or at least they used to be. I haven't had my series II R600 that I got on eBay for a year yet and it's already in the shop for the second time.

I've had an R1000 for a year. No problems, doesn't run hot, has been steady and used 2x3 times for several hours each time per week.

Ok, now I want replies on which company is better for the cabinets and head. I'll probably just get an old used head though. Please make the subject of your reply titled either HARTKE, CARVIN, AVATAR, or OTHER. Then tell me why you made your choice. Make sure you include any personal experiences, times to the shop, etc. If you need to see the potential choices, these are the websites:

Buy a Carvin head. I have a Carvin combo amp that I've been using for 10 years and I've NEVER had a single problem with it. I mostly use it for home practice but I have often used it for band practices at moderate volumes.

Carvin's amps have a clean sound if that is what you're looking for. They also have a lot of extra features like crossover, compressor, graphic EQ etc.

    And next....

Buy Avatar cabs because they use good quality eminence speakers that are better than Carvin's. I've never tried Hartke, but these speakers are different and may not be your style, but if it is, go for it.

I just got an Avatar B115, but I haven't really tested it at loud volumes yet. So far, so good, at low levels. For the price--get NEW! I don't trust used cabs. You never know how speakers have been used (or abused). I won't buy used cabs unless I know something about the prior owner.

  9. How bout Genz Benz? I think they are cheap priced..

I tried a Genz Benz 2x10 recently in a store and I really liked it. Others like them too, so that is another option. Can you try one out?

If you want a really really cheap new cab, check out www.discountmusicgear.com and look for the x-audio or madison 4x10. The xaudio is $179 plus about 60 for shipping, but i dont know how those sound or their reliability.

  12. That kicks ass, I want the 2x10 or 4x8.

    LOL!!!! :D :D :D

anyways...i highly recommend avatar speakers. i couldn't be happier with my b112, and i plan on getting a c115 or another b112 to finally complete my amp rig.

for a cheap amp - try picking up an A.M.P. head, a used SWR SM400s, hartke or the swr workingman searies are what i'd do if i had to buy a new/cheap head. peavey's always good used too - cheap and they don't die. or, a cheap poweramp and a used preamp could work. i mean - a carvin dcm1000 is 400 bucks, and an older yamaha preamp can be had for 100 bucks, and sound nice.

as for the head - check out the local yellow pages under 'escort service' :D

Peavey! 410tvx with the Firebass head. Not too expensive. Lots of bang for the buck.
