probably this is the 39,309st time this thread has been made, but I've been making research and didn't find anything, at least for what I'm looking.

I want to know what do I have to look when considering a new bass??

I want a high end bass, probably in the 2k area.

What basses do you recommend me??

    Are sound clips available??

I'm more into Reggae & Ska Music.

Maybe something like a Lakland or a vintage fender would be up your alley. are you looking for a 4/5/6/7 string or what?

Laklands have nice growl. Pretty much any bass with a MM pickup has nice growl. the Lakland 55-01's have 1 MM and one J pickup.

    How about a Modulus Flea?

Or a Warwick Streamer II, Streamer Jazzman, or Thumb?

Thanks! Chris does some great work!

the bass retailed right about the mark you're looking. I deal with Brian at http://www.thelowend.net (I built his and Chris Benavente's websites).

for Ska and Reggae, I'd spec out something with dual coils and either alder or mahogany body.

to be honest, I've only played one Sadowsky bass about 10 years back. I liked it, but not at the price... I may step into one in the future (I'm hoping to visit Roger & Nino with my Benavente in hand (so they can check out Chris' work) one of these days, I'm about 2 hours from Roger's shop).

My 51 (or the Vortex series) are bolt on neck basses like the Sadowsky stuff. Very much on the Vintage Vibe... but with the HiFi fit and finish. That was exactly what I was looking for... a High End 5 string Active Jazz bass in an old school P bass suit

If you like your P-bass but are looking for a 5er with growl, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anything with a better tone (and a better value) than a Lull or Benavente Vintate Vortex. While both builders make Jazz Bass influenced models, you can also get 5 string P basses from each as well...just depends on what you're looking for. :D

If you want a really nice growl, hunt for a used Wal. I'm familiar with Benavente and I'd still go for a Wal when it comes to growl.

For those on a budget, I'd say that the Lakland's are a great buy.

    Speaking of Benavente.....

His Vintage Vortex 5 basses are just absolutely beautiful!

Im dying to try one, and if its anywhere near as good as everyone says, I think it'll be my next five string.

    Peace
    Nick

Brian (Low End) has a Benevente 51 on it's way to me, I'm getting pretty stoked! Custom Aero P PUP, Ultra Jazz PUP, it should fill the bill nicely for that PJ5 Sadowsky I could never find (at a price I was willing to pay anyway).

    Don't waste the money.

There was a Yamaha BB5000S for sale in the classified section. It would fit the bill for sure and only set you back $600.

I'm telling you, don't sell that bass short. It is WAY under-priced.

Also, if you see any Acacias floating around...great values...especially if you can find them with the Lane Poors and U-retro preamp.

IF you're set on spending $2K, get a Smith.

I'm gonna tell you man... I ain't that crazy for Smiths, I've played a lot of Smiths, I've owned a burner, they sound just great, but... I don't know why, I don't feel confortable playing a Smith.

there's a pre-gibson tobias 5 at the guitar center in Boston, MA. I think it's something like 1800.

    Edit
Doh, didn't see you were in the PR.
