The other day at a gig the sound man was playing some very funky fusion music and lost the opportunity to ask what it was. Surely some fellow TB'ers can recommend artists that are in that genre. The general idea is not that is pop funk (surely is not mainstream),but funk in the rhythmic guitar, drums and bass basically,(not the original funk as the meters or such, talking about 90's and up) It reminded me of some Dave Weckl stuff, but this was more rock oriented, heavier, but clearly this was rock fusion musicians. I use the word funk, but might not apply correctly to this type of music. I wonder if the readers can suggest some music and see if it relates to what I am trying to find. One close band in this genre would be Living Color, which I already heard, but what I've heard tend to be much more instrumental oriented. I'll appreciate your input.
Sublime is not funk in the way I understand it. Is also mainstream,so,it doesn't fit the description. I heard Billy Cobham since I was a teen, would have recognized it right away. This was more modern, more rock oriented than all 70's funk. There was no horns from what I remember: guitar bass and drums, maybe some keys in there. I really got me with the syncopating rhythm, this were more elaborated musicians than Sublime.
Maybe some Galactic, Snarky Puppy, or Afroskull perhaps.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikgyX3bc2kE

Wow,those are some cool suggestions. Much more in the path of what I understand as funk.(but what could be the right name for it?) I will listen to them all. Keep them coming.
