hey, i have a few basses, none to extravegant, peavey foundations(3). I was finally looking to move up in the world, and i figured in what better way than to have a custom bass. So if their is anyone willing to design me a bass, preferably under 600$ let me know. thanks

A fellow TBer, Wolfehollow, designed these basses, and they were built by Jacob Marchlewski. They won't fit your $600 budget, but they won't break you, either. I guess my point is, Wolfehollow could easily do a design for you.

  3. I'd be happy to DESIGN you a bass for 600 bucks.

    Building it costs more. :D

well, what is the typical price for acustom bass???

i only get 4000 each summer for work, so i dont want to spend much over 600-1000!!!

This is a close up of the top of my 5-string, which was built from Wolfehollow's first design.

Pictures of Wolfehollow's 4 string and a lot of other customs can be found at Marchlewski Guitars website

Oh, what the heck.....here's Wolfehollow's 4 string fretless that was built off his first design.....

    and here's his second design

Wolfehollow is a very talented bass designer.

    Peace,

I love you guys... but the second bass is all Jake...

I did have a hand in this one... although Stambaugh certainly made some changes for the better.

Its actually much more sleek than this pic looks... its as if the pic is squashed a hair...

Do I spy a snakewood fingerboard there? That right there will bring a bass' price over 600$...

Looks über sweet though. I'd like to get a snakewood board, maybe i'll contact Larry...

I think that board was around 400??

I cant remember exactly... snakewood is very unforgiving on a fretless... :)

    intonation is key.

Depending on the size and quality... mine is great!

I know it was expensive... 400 is what I remember, but I could be wrong.

Are you kidding me? How do you think Martin Luther funded the reformation? Things like that aren't cheap - He did pretty good business selling basses for $800 :D

The wood and hardware might run you half that much! And that doesn't add in labor.

A typical hand made bass starts about $1500.... usually more.

    snakewood isnt cheap!
I "being a dealer even have to pay around $200!!!
the logs that will yield a fingerboard have to be at least 6-7" in diameter and snakewood has a very defective core so even that isnt guaranteed.
those logs, little logs only 4 feet long max can be over $1500!
and eventually even stabilized snakewood will develop hairline cracks. its that dense!
